The game performed poorly with both critics and players, facing criticism for technical issues, missing features, and gameplay changes. Additionally, it failed to meet sales expectations set by Electronic Arts.

In terms of setting, Battlefield 2042 takes place in the near future and provides players with futuristic weapons, gadgets, and vehicles. Gameplay revolves around intense multiplayer combat, featuring elements like Levolution from Battlefield 4 and extreme weather effects like tornadoes and sandstorms.

Despite initial challenges and criticism, the game introduced new features such as a “Plus” system for instant weapon customization, and a revamped level system that allowed players to control specialists with unique skills and gadgets.

Battlefield 2042 gameplay

Battlefield 2042’s gameplay is centered around a fast-paced, multiplayer-focused first-person shooter experience. Players are immersed in a near-future environment with advanced weapons, gadgets like deployable turrets and drones, and controllable vehicles. One notable feature is the ability for players to request a vehicle to be airdropped to any location, adding to the game’s strategic depth.

A major change to the class system sets Battlefield 2042 apart, replacing the traditional four classes with specialists belonging to classic roles such as commando, engineer, medic, and recon. Each specialist can use any unlocked weapon or gadget, bringing flexibility to player choices.

The game offers three main game modes. Total War includes familiar modes such as Conquest and Breakthrough, and can accommodate up to 128 players on next-gen platforms and 64 players on previous-gen platforms. The Battlefield Portal enables the community to create custom multiplayer modes using maps from previous Battlefield games.

Finally, “Danger Zone” introduces co-op multiplayer action, with teams racing to extract data drives from fallen satellites while battling AI-controlled enemies. Battlefield 2042 aims to provide a diverse and dynamic multiplayer experience through a series of maps, modes and innovative game elements.
