If only one survivor remains, they can attempt to find an escape pod or be sacrificed by the entity. Survivors may be injured, hooked, or rescued by others. When hooked, the survivor enters a struggling phase and must resist the entity. If taken a third time, they are sacrificed.

Survivors can sprint, walk, crouch, or crawl, and must evade the killer by hiding and losing sight. Killers have unique powers and abilities, such as turning invisible or using a chainsaw. The killer’s terror radius triggers a heartbeat and red lights to indicate their presence. Some killers can suppress these indicators, surprising survivors.

Survivors can search chests for useful items such as maps, keys, and health kits. The game features a variety of killers and survivors, each with their own playstyle and abilities. Dead by Daylight offers intense multiplayer matches and strategic gameplay elements for an immersive horror experience.

Dead by Daylight plot

In Dead by Daylight, the Entity is an otherworldly terrorist who is drawn to violence and malevolence. It forces the killer (usually a serial killer or a tragic figure) to hunt down and kill the survivors. The entity feeds on the emotions and souls of its victims.

Survivors find themselves trapped in the realm of entities that are drawn to them as they wander into certain places or are taken away upon death. They rest around bonfires between trials, where tributes can be offered to attract entities. Each trial takes place in an area relevant to the killer’s history. Escaping the trial brought the survivors back to the campfire.

This entity acts as an impartial observer, aiding both survivors and killers. The game gives each survivor and killer their own backstory, explaining their abilities and how they ended up in the physical realm. These backstories are expanded upon through the regularly released “Tomes” and a battle pass called “The Rift.”
